Foreign Language Translator (Direct NJ)

Department: 115041 - NJ FLT Translation
Location: manalapan, NJ

Main Functions: Accurately interprets the providers and family conversation without edits or substitutions. Makes corrections as quickly as possible. Contact assigned families within 24 hours of assignment to schedule 1st visit with practitioner/interpreter/family.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately interprets the providers and family conversation without edits or substitutions.
  • Contact assigned families within 24 hours of assignment to schedule 1st visit with practitioner/interpreter/family.
  • Notify the assigning RA if unable to reach the family to schedule 1st visit following 3 different attempts (phone call/texts/emails) at varying times of day.
  • Manages the flow of communication, i.e. asking the speaker to pause or slow down.
  • In instances of uninterrupted terms, the interpreter will assist the speaker in developing an explanation for the listener.
  • The interpreter maintains transparency by asking for clarification when something is not understood.
  • Maintains neutral interpretation and tone/body language as given by the speaker without interjection or opinions
  • Maintains confidentiality of all child/family information
  • Promotes direct communication between both parties
  • Adheres to all professional standards of interpretation
  • Understands and maintains cultural caregiver boundaries
  • Alerts all parties to any significant cultural misunderstandings that arise between them
  • Picks up on verbal and non- verbal cues that may indicate confusion
  • Escalates any child/family service/incidents to the corresponding Regional Administrator, HR Manager or Program Director as appropriate
  • Perform other duties as assigned/required

Experience/Qualifications/Education:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Certification in Interpretation services.
  • Experience in Early Intervention or other related health field with children and families under 5 years of age.
  • Continuing Education/Professional Development in Interpretation Services.
  • Proficiency in both English and the Spanish language.
